I arrived at the trail head a few minutes before dawn. It was dark because of impending rain. And it has been raining for the past few days. It rained that night and rained during the hike. It was a little off and on, but never poured heavily.
The rain did a fantastic job of feeding three waterfalls. Since it was early at certain points it was possible to actually hear the waterfalls. All feed into a river below, hidden from view by dense foliage.
At the trailhead, the hike started pretty well and it sayed
good for most of the way. Trail was rather clear to only hazard was
slippery hard dirt surfaces. Later, the trail would narrow and trying to
keep my feet dry was no longer possible. And at one point I just have
up.
Reaching the end of Moalepe it became pure mud. Holding
steady, marched through it, got to the end, took this picture and turned
around. I was not pressed for time but I did want to make up some time,
so I stepped it out. Since staying dry was not going to happen anyway.
The high point of the hike other than the beautiful
scenery, grasses, trees, mountain's, waterfalls was the mooing of a cow. Hike was good.
